Note: 0.1% salt is equal to 1 ppt (parts per thousand)

- At 0.1% salt, you will block nitrite receptors on the koi, preventing them from intaking nitrites to the blood stream.

- At 0.3% salt, you will begin to kill off some ciliated protozoan parasite like ick, trichodina and Chilodonella. This will also begin to kill off algae and also plants in the water.

- 0.6% is the highest you would ever want to bring your salt. Going over this amount will begin to damage your koi’s gills.
